7.2 延伸視野（Extend）

這一節，同時探討兩個字根，一個字根與「伸」有關，一個字根與「視」有關。因此，節標題是「延伸視野」，也就是，extend your perspective。

expect = ex + pect = look out = 期望
inspect = in + spect = look into = 檢查
perspective = per + spect + ive名詞字尾 = intensive look = 遠景、透視法
respect = re + spect = look again 或 look back = 尊敬、重視
GIMP的加強品質（Enhance）子選單內，有去斑紋（Despeckle）濾鏡，speckle、speck這兩個字都有斑點、污跡的意思，源自於古英語。但是Perspective源自於古法語與拉丁語。因此，Despeckle和Perspective這兩個字的語源是不同的。
字根 spec(t) 的字還有：
  • aspect方面、樣子
  • aspect ratio長寬比，GIMP是二維的、平面的影像處理軟體，在對話盒與面版中，常可看到aspect ratio參數。

2.4版GIMP的工具箱上，有個Xtns選單，收錄與Script-Fu相關的功能。
Xtns是Extensions的縮寫，表示「擴展」。
extend = ex + tend = stretch out = 向外延伸
tend除了是字根，tend這個字，有兩種不同的意思，可表示趨向、傾向，也可表示照顧、照料。
  • tendance照顧
  • tendence趨向
  • tender溫柔的
  • tense緊繃的
  • tension緊繃、緊張、物理學上的張力
  • tent帳篷
